An Interior Designer working for a big client usually works closely with the architects, structural and mechanical engineers to determine how the space will look. However, those working on smaller projects such as a home makeover will work liase with a team of painters and decorators. A typical day for an Interior Designer will involve:

Sourcing new projects
Building a relationship with home retail chains and suppliers
Working closely with clients to determine and create their vision
Creating preliminary design plans and revising them in accordance with client feedback
Preparing final plans using computer software
Considering how to make space (especially if it's limited) functional and beautiful
Ordering materials and managing workers
Maintaining relationship with clients once a project is finished and ensuring they are satisfied

What qualifications does an Interior designer need?

A relevant university degree or Higher National Diploma is often required for this role. Degrees or diplomas in 3D Design, Interior Design and Interior Architecture are preferred.

It is also worthwhile taking courses in CAD or Photoshop as this can boost your application.

Entry without a degree is possible if the applicant has years of experience under their belt and is able to demonstrate a strong creative flair.
