          A Museum Assistant must know security procedures as they will be expected to patrol the building and monitor security of exhibits. A typical day for a Museum Assistant will be:

          • Patrolling the buildings and checking the security of exhibits
          • Issuing entrance tickets
          • Cleaning the museum
          • Helping staff move and change displays
          • Talking to visitors
          • Offering direction to visitors
          • Preparing and delivering education programs and tours
          • Providing say-to-day admin support such as answering the phone, undertaking retail duties (in the museum shop or ticket stand)
          • Assisting with special museum events
          • Chatting with the wax figurines when they come to live at night

          A Museum Assistant just starting out is expected to earn between £15,000 and £18,000 per annum.

          Experienced Museum Assistants earn between £19,000 to £22,000 per annum.

          What qualifications does a Museum assistant need?

          There are no minimum qualifications needed for this role. But, if you have left school with a handful of GCSEs you will have the upper hand when applying.

          You will be expected to show an interest in the museum and the work that they do. For example if you apply to the Bluebell Railway, you will be expected to be passionate and knowledgeable about the railway

          Experience in customer service roles is useful since a Museum Assistant will be dealing with the public on a daily basis.
