Who we are City Year is a dynamic charity that brings together a diverse range of young people for seven or eleven months of citizen service, giving them the skills and opportunities to change the world. Our young people, known as corps members, give full-time citizen service to their communities whilst receiving support for a 'Leadership after City Year' plan involving direct contact with major private sector employers such as Barclays Capital, National Grid, Goldman Sachs, Credit Suisse, Towerbrook and Burberry. What we do In teams of up to ten, our corps members work with children in primary and secondary schools full-time from Monday to Thursday as tutors, role models and leaders of fun and creative after-school programmes. This school-based service is the core of City Year's Whole School, Whole Child model of helping students to break through barriers to social mobility and achieve their potential. We lead physical service days that inspire a sense of community by bringing together our sponsors and people from all sections of the population to create gardens and play spaces, renovate youth clubs and schools and co-ordinate local events. Corps members engage with the wider community, sponsors and public figures throughout their year of service, spreading the message of young people's power to change the world. By delivering presentations and speaking at public events as representatives of City Year, corps members are encouraged to be leaders and ambassadors for citizen service.
