York is a beautiful cultural city, buzzing with activity and with two universities. It lies on the River Ouse and has the historic York Minster. The city has a few well known destinations such as the Shambles and the Jorvik Viking Centre. Close to York is Leeds Bradford Airport and Manchester Airport. Leeds Bradford is only 1 hour by car, or alternatively 1 hour 20 minutes by train. Manchester Airport is 1 hour 30 minutes by car, or a direct train from York, around 1 hour 45 minutes.
York has a detailed cycle network, both on-road and off-road, and is encouraged as an alternative to driving by York City Council.

As well as its Minster, and the city walls, there is a large shopping scene. Most recently, the city has become famous for its Yorkshire Pudding Wrap from the York Roast Co. A short journey away is the Brontë sisters' house, and the seaside town of Scarborough. In this city, you will never be short of activities.
