In this role you will be required to take care of collections of artefacts or works of art. The care will include dealing with the acquisition and display of items with the aim of educating the public.
Although daily responsibilities for an art gallery curator will differ depending on the size of gallery, your job is likely to include:
- Acquiring objects or collections of interest to the clientele of the gallery
- Logging acquisitions and keeping records
- Conducting background research and writing catalogs
- Displaying collections in accessible and engaging ways
- Writing articles and supporting pieces for online pages
- Planning, organising and delivering educational lectures
- Reviewing collections when necessary
- Writing bids
- Negotiating loans items e.g. extending loans and accompanying funding
- Responding to enquiries from researchers, the public, clients, and stakeholders
- Budgeting, forecasting, and reporting
- Staff training and development
- Liaising with voluntary groups and schools
- Networking with other museums and art professionals
