          • Researching biomedical problems at microscopic level to develop an understanding of disease processes
          • Researching biomaterials suitable for the human body, e.g. artificial pacemakers, hips and kidneys
          • Applying classical mechanics to biological or medical dilemmas to develop life-changing devices, e.g. artificial heart and artificial joint replacements
          • Designing and developing prosthetics and assistive technology
          • Applying engineering methods to understand the function of bones, joints and muscles
          • Reviewing, developing and changing medical equipment when necessary
