        Interior designers will typically do the following:

        • Search for and bid on new projects to work on
        • Meet with prospective clients and determine their goals and requirements for the project
        • Consider how the space can be efficiently used
        • Sketch design plans and establish electrical layouts
        • Sketch design plans, initially by hand and then using computer applications
        • Specify the materials and furnishings, e.g. lighting, furniture, flooring
        • Create a timescale and propose an estimated date of completion
        • Compose an estimate cost of the project for clients
        • Meet with clients once the project is complete to ensure that they are satisfied

        Most interior designers will work 37-40 hours a week, though you may need to alter your working day to your client's availability. This may require some evening meetings and weekends.

        A bachelor's degree is required for this role, especially degrees that cover design, drawing and computer-aided design (CAD).
