The Opportunity Our Safety Risk and Reliability team works across a range of safety critical, mission critical and asset intensive industries including major hazard (gas, chemical and renewable energy), the transport and rail sectors (metro, high-speed rail) to mission-critical infrastructure (data centres, hospital & financial services), and emerging technology sectors. The team applies its skill and knowledge to understand what can go wrong, identify where things are not working effectively, to support our client in making informed decisions that account for uncertainty and risk on sophisticated solutions, in order to enhance the quality, efficiency, safety, security and environmental protection of their people and critical assets. We're looking for Graduate Safety Risk Consultants to join our teams in London or Manchester. You'll join an unrivalled community of experts, where everyone is supported in their career path and encouraged to work towards a professional qualification. You will be responsible for understanding the client's business, identifying the risks in a structured and consistent manner whilst working very closely with the client to mitigate and manage these risks via suitable and efficient controls. Arup's safety risk and reliability consultants are involved throughout the whole life cycle from research & development, input at strategic and planning stages, feasibility, and concept design to operations and maintenance. Is this role right for you? We're looking for Graduate Safety and Risk Engineers with curiosity, personal drive and technical knowhow. As well as a strong interest and knowledge in technical safety and reliability, risk engineering and risk management, you will have excellent organisational and communication skills, and an understanding of the concepts of multi-disciplinary design and system thinking. You will be collaborative in your approach but able to work independently and look to gain a thorough understanding of the role of a design engineer, first-principles design and risk-based design frameworks. You will have the following qualifications, attributes and skills: Engineering (Engineering Science, Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, System, Safety and Reliability), Science or Mathematical related degree on track to achieve a 2:1/60% or higher Excellent written, verbal and sketch communication skills Interest/experience in data analytics, numerical analysis, quantitative assessments Desirable skills and knowledge: MSc, PhD or other postgraduate qualification in Engineering Risk & Safety Management, Risk and Reliability Engineering, Process Safety or a related discipline Ability in programming in Visual Basic, C++, Python or other scripting language Interest and experience in relevant areas such as system safety, engineering safety management, risk analysis and quantification, reliability engineering Interest and experience in risk-based design, data analytics, numerical/statistical analysis (such as Monte Carlo Simulation) uncertainty quantification, human behaviours and dynamics, machine-learning techniques, industrial internet of things (IoTs), new digital tools, digital performance management, data visualisation. In addition to the above-mentioned technical capabilities, we are looking for an individual with strong interpersonal and teamwork skills who can work confidently in a consulting capacity. The role holder will work very closely with our clients and be involved in business development, bids, proposals and budget management.
