Social care, housing, education and the environment are just a fraction of the services local councils are constantly working to improve. We are looking for the next generation of managers to lead critical projects and services that have tangible, everyday outcomes for people's lives.
Fast track your career The ngdp is a two-year programme which fast tracks graduates into management careers in local government. Work on issues that matter while building your career in the public sector, the largest employer in the UK. The ngdp offers placements in more than 50 different locations every year, providing opportunities across England and Wales.
Challenging, rewarding work Our graduate trainees work in at least three different parts of their chosen local council over two years of the programme. They gain insight into the front line, operational delivery and corporate management of council services. This experience is supported through a learning and development programme delivered online and through residential events with other management trainees.
A community of like minds Our trainees build a strong network of like-minded peers who support their personal and professional development. Every council provides mentoring and support.
Live well, work well The ngdp offers a baseline salary of £24,174 (not including inner/outer London weighting) which is subject to annual increases. Local authorities also provide a generous holiday entitlement, pension scheme and flexible approach to your work/life balance.
