About Us: The National Probation Service, as part of the National Offender Management Service (NOMS), is a national organisation covering England and Wales. The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for NOMS oversees the entire NPS delivery structure.
Our role is to protect the public, support victims and reduce reoffending. Our vision is simple: "Preventing Victims by Changing Lives".
Transforming Rehabilitation: The government undertook the Transforming Rehabilitation consultation to understand where changes could be made to improve the effectiveness of our service.
Until 2014, probation services were run by 35 regional trusts. The work previously done by those trusts has now been split. 21 private sector Community Rehabilitation Companies manage low and medium-risk offenders, while high-risk cases remain in our care. Our divisions cover London, Midlands, North East, North West, South East, South West and South Central and NOMS in Wales.
Now, with 9,000 staff and 90,000 offenders, we've transformed our structure for maximum impact and efficiency. Together, we're reducing their risk of reoffending.
We're committed to cutting crime through working with offenders, and these changes are giving us the means to do so.
