The Royal Air Force is the United Kingdom's aerial warfare force. Formed towards the end of the First World War on 1 April 1918, it is the oldest independent air force in the world. Following victory over the Central Powers in 1918 the RAF emerged as, at the time, the largest air force in the world.
Since its formation, the RAF has taken a significant role in British military history, in particular, playing a large part in the Second World War where it fought its most famous campaign, the Battle of Britain. There are air bases and administrative centres in England, Scotland and Wales, with numerous strategic bases around the world.
There are numerous entry points with the RAF, but as a graduate you will have the option to begin officer training. This can lead to flying roles, or opportunities within engineering, intelligence or logistics, plus many more.
Training begins with an initial 32-week course that runs alongside numerous other training and assessment programmes designed to test and prepare graduates for a career as an officer in the RAF. Leadership, team work and communications skills will be advanced at every stage. The RAF also offers and supports graduates looking to gain professional qualifications that will benefit their careers.
Promotion prospects to higher ranks are available to those who demonstrate the right attitude and commitment to their working responsibility. The opportunity to work around the world and experience a wide range of situations that many people will never get the chance are definite options for graduates in any line of RAF career.
The RAF is full of people who come from all walks of life but are on the same wavelength. That's a great platform on which to build strong bonds, friendships and a great career. The bond that RAF personnel develop is unique. This becomes clear in not only how you work together, but also how you socialise with each other and grow.
