About the UK Commission for Employment and Skills:
The UK Commission for Employment and Skills brings strategic leadership to jobs and growth through skills. We are led by a group of Commissioners that include high profile business people, leading trade unionists and representatives from higher and further education, and the third sector.
Commissioners are focused on developing research, shaping government policy and encouraging employer investment in the following four areas: 1) more employers investing in the skills of their people, 2) more career opportunities for young people, 3) more collective action by employers through stronger sectors and local networks and 4) employers taking greater ownership of the skills and employment agenda.

Our Intern Programme is flexible and we will allocate successful individuals to their first project when they start in February 2013. Where possible we will take account of preferences but the key is to align individual skills with the right projects.
Role Purpose:
To proactively contribute to the work of the UK Commission by delivering robust solutions across our policy areas.
Key Accountabilities:
Work with our external stakeholders on policy areas related to employment and skills. This will involve contributing at events, meetings as well as developing presentations and briefings for colleagues based on the Commission’s research
Shape the development of government policy and take responsibility for delivering on key projects that influence across the employment and skills landscape
Work with internal teams across the total UK Commission agenda to ensure that the project outputs align with the overall UK Commission strategy and Commissioner requirements
Contribute to the development and communication of products that support employer ownership of skills
Identify, research and refine proposals for improving processes and ways of working that con-tributes to the overall performance of the UK Commission and sensitively engage the UK Commission Team to communicate the ideas
Undertake any roles or tasks that are consistent with the level of this post or that fall within the scope of the role thereby ensuring that the overall business and operational priorities of the UK Commission are delivered in a timely and effective manner
Person Specification:
Proven ability to pick up complex and new ideas and concepts quickly and adapt them to the needs of specific work/project outcomes
Excellent interpersonal skills (face to face, written, presentation and through social media where applicable) which enables clear messages and complex information/ideas to be communicated effectively and the ability to build relationships with external partners to in-fluence outcomes
Ability to work across organisational boundaries and develop constructive relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels in the context of events and other frontline activity
Strong research and analytical skills with the ability to identify and retrieve pertinent informa-tion, assimilate data from a variety of sources and present in a coherent and persuasive way
Evidence of being a good team player with the ability to support a team to achieve overall or-ganisation goals and with the confidence to challenge current thinking, but with the sensitivity to deliver these messages appropriately
Proactive and motivated with the ability to work on own initiative and see projects through – delivering more than was expected with a focus on accuracy
Demonstrable evidence of taking responsibility for delivering project outcomes in an organised way that includes thorough planning, identification and mitigation of risks and appropriate time and resource allocation and that allows for a flexible approach when required
Ability to work with the complexity and ambiguity associated with organisational growth and change

Allocation to UK Commission teams will depend on individual preferences, skill fit and organisation requirement
Individuals may be required to attend conferences, seminars and meetings away from the base location of the post, with such attendance sometimes involving overnight stays
