A work placement in agriculture or environment will teach you some key transferable skills, provide the chance for you to work outdoors if you wish, and potentially set yourself up for a career in this rewarding industry.
Within environment and agriculture you could be working in a range of jobs. Agriculture is focused on the plant and production side of the industry, whereas environment includes the political side as environment policies govern how the public and businesses operate on a day to day basis.
The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) produce the regulations for this industry to ensure that the farming processes are sustainable, safe and of high quality.
With growing concerns in the world about global warming and issues of sustainability, this is a rapidly expanding industry and there a number of jobs available in this area. This is incredibly important work as it is ensuring that the world can continue being able to support human life.
The average age of this workforce is quite old, around 55 years, meaning that a big skills gap is anticipated in the not-so-far future. There tends to be a lot of oppprtunity in this area, especially if you're young and willing to learn!
