Helping you find a career in the photography industry
It is an understatement to say we're obsessed with images in the 21st Century. They're everywhere - from newspapers and billboards, to art installations and blog posts. A photographer is responsible for photographing the perfect image, for whatever purpose the photograph needs to serve.
Photographers can photograph stunning landscapes, celebrities on a runway, the moment the bride says “I do” at a wedding, or any other image that someone wants to remember. You can travel around the world as a freelancer or work from a studio. You could work for a company, photographing for clients, or you could just do it for the art.
If you're a freelancer you'll need your own equipment, while a studio photographer for a business will often have equipment provided.
Work can be somewhat unstable as you'll usually be working on a short-term project, and will need to find something new once you've finished. Your hours will consequently be flexible, and you'll be very busy some parts of the year.
These days photography is usually profit-orientated, so it is rare that you'll have complete artistic control. One place you might have more artistic freedom is in art galleries, but these positions are rare and competitive. However, working to the specifications of a client can present fun challenges where you'll need to think of creative ways to get across the client's message.
