We offer a number of different development programmes across our Energy businesses and within IT. We’re delighted to share with you a little bit more about each of the programmes currently available.

ENGINEERING CRAFT APPRENTICESHIPS
Our accredited apprenticeship programme is aimed at candidates with GCSE’s (or equivalent) in Maths, English and a Science or Engineering/ Technical subjects. This programme offers you the opportunity to gain new skills and qualifications and will set you on the path to a long term rewarding career, where you’ll have the opportunity to really make a difference.
We're one of the most diverse energy companies in the industry, with a range of different businesses serving different purposes. We have opportunities for you to join as an Apprentice in Mechanical or Electrical Contracting, as a Multi Craft Apprentices in our Generation & Renewables business and as a Lines Person, Jointer or Electrical Fitter in our Energy Networks business.
Whichever Apprenticeship you choose, you'll have the opportunity to achieve a Modern Apprenticeship qualification and a City & Guilds Technical Certificate (or SVQ in Scotland) at level 2 or 3 depending on the role. You will learn new skills that will help you build a successful career in the industry and the opportunity to forge a career at SSE beyond your Apprenticeship.
TRAINEE ENGINEERS
Our Trainee Engineer Programme is aimed at candidates with A levels (or equivalent) in Maths and Science. This programme is about more than transforming your own future. It’s your chance to become an engineer who’ll help shape the future of energy.
In years one and two, your time will be split between placements and university. In year three, you’ll be given management responsibility. You’ll work with experienced professionals in depots, power stations and control rooms and gain a qualification in Electrical Power Engineering.
At the end of your training , you will qualified to work as an Electrical Network Engineer in our Energy Networks business or a Maintenance Engineer in our Generation & Renewables business.
IT DEGREE APPRENTICESHIPS
Our IT Degree Apprenticeship is aimed at students on track to achieve three A2 Levels (or equivalent), one of which should be in an IT related subject. This programme offers a fantastic opportunity for College Leavers to join the SSE IT department as a Degree Apprentice, where they can learn about IT and also study for a BSc (Hons) degree in Digital and Technology Solutions. This is combining the best of both worlds – successful recruits will gain valuable work experience, earn a competitive salary and gain a degree with no tuition fees.
IT is constantly changing to meet business needs, we are investing significant sums, and growing our capabilities in new and emerging technologies. This is a period of exciting change and Degree Apprentices joining SSE have the opportunity to be at the heart of this. We will help you develop your technical skills, aligning with the degree course modules, as well as getting you involved in the business areas of IT such as finance, planning and project management. You’ll be helped with personal development and soft skills such as communications and presentation skills, and we have a mentoring network to provide additional support and guidance.
